Oakwood Survey & Mapping, LLC

I've started this blog to document interesting work and experiences I have while running my new company. I started Oakwood Survey & Mapping, LLC in July, 2007 and have been dreaming of quitting my full time surveying job to run my own company since then.. well, in February, 2011 I took a huge leap of faith and quit my 9-5.

In the first month, I've had three jobs.. one of which was a very large 85 acre survey of a farm in Wilmingtom, Ohio. The other two jobs have been smaller lot surveys in the City of Dayton. I've learned a lot and had a lot of fun in the first month.

My background as a surveyor started with a small company in my home town, we did mostly mortgage and lot surveys, a few large boundaries.. but it was all based off of the old 5000,5000 local coordinate system. When I moved to Dayton in 2002, I started working with GPS and grid systems.. but never really did boundary work. Today, I'm melding the two sets of expereince and figuring out how to draw connection between them. Grid to Ground is a big part of this learning curve, but I'm getting there. Each day I learn something new.. really fun stuff.

Along with this blog, my company's website is:

http://www.oakwoodsurveying.com

I'll be updating both sites over the coming weeks. Please check back soon, thanks!
